WE ARE TRULY SO HAPPY TO HEAR THAT EVERYONE WHO PURCHASES OUR WEDDING AND HOME DECOR, KNOWS THEY ARE RECEIVING A ONE OF A KIND, BEAUTIFULLY HANDCRAFTED ITEM, WORTHY OF THEIR WEDDING DAY DECOR, A GIFT FOR SOMEONE SPECIAL, OR DECOR TO ENJOY EVERY DAY IN THEIR HOME.
Before we created Cypress & Whim, we were looking for décor for our own wedding. We did not like traditional wedding décor, and wanted completely original and one of a kind items just for our unique rustic chic, woodland styled wedding. We saw weddings we liked on Pinterest and in magazines, but at the time, there was not much available on the market in the style we wanted as most of those photos were stylized shoots and not real weddings.
We both have always been very good at creating. Justin being a welder for his profession, and I being in love with art and creating since a young age due to much of my family being crafters, we felt that creating the décor for our wedding would be the best route to take. At the end of the year, we created almost every decoration from our arch, to the wood slice chargers, to the centerpieces. Our guests were completely amazed and had never seen a wedding like ours. They began approaching us saying that I should consider this as my career path. It was something I dreamed of while creating for our wedding, but was not sure that I could do it.
I was concerned that I would not be able to learn how to ship items, or keep up with orders. So many thoughts and doubts went through my mind, “what happens if there is a problem with shipping?” and “what if I get too tired working two jobs?” and “we live in an apartment, if this does turn into a real business, how am I going to have room to keep creating?” but then I realized, I can’t keep thinking what if. If this really was something I was meant to do, I should just go for it and give it my best shot. There were many brides out there that wanted weddings just like ours, but couldn’t find the décor online, or couldn’t make their own. So both Justin and I decided that I should give it a shot, the extra income would definitely help!
I started by creating the most unique, gorgeous, handmade rustic chic wedding signs and table numbers for our first product line for brides who wanted woodland, or rustic chic wedding décor handcrafted just for them. I wanted to make items that were not just your typical rustic style with burlap and simple fonts, but items that were chic, whimsical, and elegant.
It turns out; there were more challenges ahead than anticipated.
The shop took off, to the point that I was working 16 hour days 7 days a week. Then Justin’s mother had a massive heart attack and spent the entire summer in the hospital before passing the end of July.
We decided while his mother was in the hospital, that it was time to make the shop my full time job. We were able to visit his mother in the evenings, and I was able to further Cypress & Whim, and keep up with brides needs for their wedding signs. Through it all, we made it through one of the most difficult times of our lives, with a new business that we love. We launched our new home décor product line in October featuring gifts and Holiday décor, and will launch our Spring 2016 wedding collection next! We look forward to continue broadening our products create what brides want and need for their big day, and what home owners dream of having in their homes. Without our buyers support, we would never be where we are today!
